Care of Your Jewelery
One of the questions I am asked most frequently is how to clean and store silver jewelery. One of the safest methods I have found to clean is to use washing soda, particularly if the jewellery contains pearls. Washing soda may be found in the laundry section of your grocery store. Arm and Hammer is a popular brand. The instruction are as follows:
1. Line a glass bowl or jar with tin foil
2. Add one or two tablespoons of washing soda
3. Add hot water - enough to cover the jewelery when placed in. You will see the washing soda start to react with the tin foil as little bubbles begin to form.
4. Add the jewelery and wait for a minute or two depending on how tarnished the silver is.
5. Rinse the jewelery in warm water and dry with a soft cloth.
Storing the silver in a ziploc bag will significantly reduce tarnish.
